The event was held on Wednesday 13th May 2015 as the new administration was meeting with key stakeholders in the Nigerian healthcare industry in an attempt to define the healthcare strategy of the incoming administration.
Dr. John Adesioye CEO Utopian Consulting LLC was one of the distinguished panel members which included Dr. Leke Pitan, former Commissioner for Health Lagos State, Dr. Oluwole Odutolu World Bank Team Lead for PBF in Nigeria, Dr. Frank Odafen National President Association of General Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, Nkiru Adekoya Managing Director FBN Capital Funds Ltd, Tosin Runsewe Group Executive, Mansard Insurance/Mansard HMO and Dr. Kayode Obembe National President, Nigeria Medical Association. Key areas of discussion were based around strengthening and rebuilding Nigeria's health systems and infrastructure as well as exploring new directions for financing a sustainable response to Nigeria's health challenges. This led to the administration via their healthcare strategists requesting further input from Dr. Adesioye about the following: Modalities for stemming the multibillion dollar hemorrhaging from outbound medical tourism, modalities for establishing medical villages, diaspora skill repatriation program and modalities for achieving net positive medial tourism with focus on SSA.
Other perspectives and position statements requested from Dr. Adesioye included terms of reference for developing an effective primary healthcare PPP structure. The hope was that the incoming Minister of Health will incorporate some of these positions discussed at length and in detail with Vice President Osinbajo in the key healthcare initiatives of the Buharu/Osinbajo administration.
